LeGoreDonaldDonald William LeGore, 93, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. He was born February 8, 1929 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to the late Floyd and Meta (Jeppesen) LeGore. His lifelong love of aviation inspired him to become a certified private pilot and airframe and power plant mechanic. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, serving in Europe and within the United States. It was in 1952 that Donald met Janet Maxine Gibson. On their first date he flew them both to a fly-in breakfast. They married in 1953 in Lamoni, Iowa, Janet’s hometown. After honorable discharge from the Air Force, Donald pursued a full career as a professional aircraft mechanic and inspector in Sioux City, Iowa. He next joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Safety Inspector at the West Chicago GADO/FSDO at DuPage Airport, eventually retiring as supervisor of the Airworthiness Unit there. Following retirement, he pursued a third career as an FAA-designated airworthiness representative well into his 80s. His devotion to aviation has inspired his children and grandchildren to also pursue aviation interests. His curiosity and desire to learn, improve himself, and to work hard were seen by those who shared in his long life. His love of the Lord, his tender and caring love for his family, and the pride he had for his country were felt by all who knew him. Donald is survived by his children: Rebecca (Mike) LeGore-Post of Hinton, Iowa, Mary Ann (Beth Kramer) LeGore of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and William LeGore of Windsor, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jesse LeGore, Sarah LeGore, Andrew LeGore and Sophie LeGore, his great-grandson Evan LeGore, and by his long time friend, Sandra Churchill.
