Carlene Ann Altman

December 25, 1935 - July 23, 2022

AltmanPicCarlene Ann Altman passed away peacefully at home on Saturday afternoon July 23,2022. She was 86 years old. Carlene originally grew up in Negaunee, Michigan, the oldest sister of four children born to her parents, John and Anna Warren. Being part of a musical family, Carlene played the trombone as a kid. After graduating from Negaunee High School in 1953, Carlene earned her Registered Nursing certification from Augustana Hospital in Chicago in 1956.

Carlene met her future husband Ronald Altman on a date setup by friends. They married in 1958, living in Chicago and Franklin Park, IL before buying their first house in Elmhurst, IL. As the family kept growing, they later moved to Batavia in 1975where Carlene and her husband Ron raised five children and lived through the end of their respective lives.

Carlene was a dedicated and hard-working nurse who worked first at Augustana and Elmhurst Hospitals. After a period of time being a stay-at-home mom, she returned to full time work for thirty years as a RN Nurse at Aurora Manor Nursing Home in Aurora, IL.

She was so much a mother to her five children in Craig, Keith, Kevin, Carla and Chris. Carlene would attend every band concert, solo recital, school play or musical. She especially enjoyed the jazz ensemble concerts that featured Craig on Tenor Saxophone and later Kevin on Trumpet. She also attended every Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout ceremonies. One of the last concerts she attended was for her granddaughter Katherine Buell, and she thoroughly enjoyed the concert.

When it came to friends or other family members visiting her house, she always had plateful of food ready, along with a homemade dessert. Her frozen strawberry surprise was her own making.

Carlene was preceded by the deaths of her husband of 58 years Ronald Altman, her parents John and Anna Warren, her husband’s parents Herbert and Marie Altman, her sister-in-law Janet Templeton, brother-in-law Hub Altman, older brother James Warren, her younger sister Grayce Warren, her nephews Steve Templeton and Garry Templeton, and her son Keith Altman.

She is survived by her children Craig Altman, Kevin Altman, Carla Altman (Buell) and Christopher Altman, her son-in-law John Buell, grandsons Randall Altman and Grayson Buell, granddaughters Lauren Altman and Katherine Buell, great grandson Dean Trejo-Altman, younger sister Dorothy Warren, nephews John Warren and David Warren, and niece Jan Warren.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 5th from 4pm-6pm at Bethany Lutheran Church 8 South Lincoln Street In Batavia, Illinois. The funeral service will proceed right after at 6pm.

Private interment at the West Batavia Cemetery will be held on Saturday August 6 at 1:00 pm.
