Payne Obit PhotoDaniel “Dan” J. Payne, 53, of Batavia, IL., passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at his home, in Batavia, IL.  Dan was born on October 19, 1968, in Oak Park, IL., the son of John and Kathleen (Carey) Payne.

Dan’s life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by him understand that the imprint he left on our hearts exceeds the quantity of time he stayed here.

Dan was best known as being the ultimate handy man. He took pride in his work and was never afraid to go the extra mile to help those closest to him. He was an avid athlete all his life from golf, basketball to bowling where he accomplished the perfection of a 300 game. You could find him in the center circle playing slow pitch softball where he enjoyed playing with some of his best friends for many years. In addition, he also was a behind the scenes softball catcher for his daughter and the best fan anyone could ask for.

Chicago sports held a special place in his heart as a huge supporter of the Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Hawks and Illini. He always had a matching sports outfit from his hat down to his beloved Jordan’s. Game day meant friendly gatherings at the Payne household including Dan’s famous eggrolls.

Dan was a rare combination of someone who had a love for life and a firm understanding as to what was important. He had a fearless nature, contagious smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He lived by his own rules and certainly paved his own unique way through life. Anyone who truly knew him, knew he had a big heart and always had your back.  At the end of the day, Dan was a simple man. He would have been most happy, on his boat spending the day away fishing.

He was a loving father, son, brother and dearest friend who will be missed dearly. He also was a great dog Dad to his four legged companion and shadow, Miss Lainey in whom he loved very much. May Dan’s memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Dan is survived by his loving daughter, Lyndsey (Adam) Schaefer; his mother, Kathleen M. Payne; his two siblings, Brian (Niesha) Payne and Meghan Payne; his two nieces, Caili Payne and Alexis Payne.

He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Payne.

A celebration of life service will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Saturday April 23, 2022, at Old Towne Pub, 201 W State St. Geneva, IL  60134. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dan’s name may be made to, Anderson Animal Shelter,
