Thomas Jerome Mokrzycki

July 4, 1949 - November 20, 2021

Thomas Jerome Mokrzycki, 72, passed away November 20, 2021 at his residence in Batavia, IL.  He was born in Chicago on July 4th, 1949, the son of Harry and Martha (Szczechowiak) Mokrzycki.

Thomas graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1967. That same year he joined the U.S. Army Security Agency and served as a Beech RU-8D aircraft crew chief during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Commendation Medal and was honorably discharged on November 14th, 1973.

Upon his return to the U.S., he was united in marriage to Yvonne (Troc) Mokrzycki December 14, 1974 in Chicago. Together, they had a daughter, Janine Marie Mokrzycki, born on June 2, 1980, and a son, Brian Thomas Mokrzycki, born on September 16, 1982. In 2001, they became the legal guardians of nephew Michael Hanley. Throughout the entirety of his life, Thomas was a dedicated husband and father. 

Thomas graduated from De Paul University in Chicago, IL with a Master’s of Science in Computer Science in 1986 and pursued a career in engineering.  Over the course of his career, he was employed at AT&T Bell Labs and Acatel-Lucent Technologies as an automated system engineer.  A self-proclaimed “tech guru", he enjoyed tinkering with electronics and helping friends with their computers.

Thomas had a great passion for his family, friends and neighbors.  He was always keenly interested in the stories of those around him and often filled his dinner table with those close to him. He was a long-time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, IL and enjoyed attending service on Sundays.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Yvonne Mokrzycki, his daughter, Janine Mokrzycki.  His parents, Martha Mokrzycki and Harry Mokrzycki, also preceded him in death.

Thomas is survived by his son Brian Mokrzycki and wife Wilson of Portland, OR; his guardian son Michael Hanley and Becky of Kansas City, MO; his sister Mary Leliefeld and husband Rick of Wheaton, IL and several nieces and nephews. Thomas has two grandchildren: Eugene Clark Mokrzycki and Adeylnn Marie Jane Hanley.

Visitation will be held 1:00 P.M.- 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Moss Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.

Funeral service will begin with prayers at 9:30 A.M., Monday, November 29, 2021 at the funeral home, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 West Main Street Batavia, IL to Celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at West Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.
