Richard Wells James

November 13, 1948 - April 29, 2018

Richard Wells James, 69, of Batavia, died April 29, 2018. Rick was born November 13, 1948, in Akron, Ohio the son of John and Lorraine (nee Wells) James.  Richard was united in marriage to Dee (nee Davenport) Stribling October 28, 2000 in St. Charles, IL. 

Rick was a retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections where he was Chief Engineer for Juvenile services.  He was an active person who embraced every form of exercise. Despite a diagnosis of Early onset Alzheimer’s, he fought to maintain his active lifestyle and contact with close friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Dee, stepson, Matt (Mandy) Stribling, stepdaughter, Katherine “Kaki” Stribling, grandchildren; Austin, Chase, and Kara Stribling, sister, Valery James Kehoe, brother, Jeffery (Marla) W. James, niece Angela Stallman Miller, nephews Michael (Kacey) Kehoe, Trent James, and Darby Kehoe.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael W. James. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510.   A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers Rick asked that memorials be local as he loved Batavia.  In his memory memorial contributions may be made to; Batavia public Library foundation, Batavia Park District, or the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence.
