Michael Arthur Bonifas

August 30, 1993 - August 4, 2017

Michael Bonifas

Michael Arthur Bonifas was born on August 30, 1993 in Aurora, Illinois to Dale and Jeanette Bonifas.  He died suddenly from a tragic fall on August 4, 2017 at the age of 23.  Michael loved life and all of the people around him.  His contagious smile will always be remembered along with his dimples that reflected the joy in his heart.  He lived every second of every day like it was his last.
Michael is survived by his parents, Dale and Jeanette Bonifas of Batavia, Illinois; three siblings: Heather, Kristin and Ryan; longtime girlfriend Madison Peppa of Barrington, Illinois; grandparents, Bob Bonifas of Aurora, Illinois, Alice (Bonifas) Lee and Bob Lee of Batavia, Illinois and Jerry Kluck of Mount Vernon, Illinois; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Thelma Kluck of Mount Vernon, Illinois. His tragic loss is a wound to every heart that loved him and he will never be forgotten.
Michael graduated from Batavia High School in 2011. Upon graduation, he attended The University of Kansas where he graduated with a marketing degree in 2015.  He was employed as an account executive by FleishmanHillard in Chicago, Illinois.

Michael was an avid lover of life and the outdoors is where he pursued his passions. When the leaves began to change, he could be found eating cereal while hiking the Appalachian Trail with his brother, Ryan, duck hunting with Tyler, or walking in the woods.  When the snow came, Michael’s adventures shifted to snowboarding in Breckenridge, Colorado where his family spent annual vacations; scuba diving in the Bahamas with his girlfriend, Madison; hiking, ice fishing, hunting, and hanging out at The Dark Horse in Chicago with his friends as often as possible.  Summers at Powers Lake, Wisconsin -  his favorite place on Earth – is where he spent much of his time from Memorial Day to Labor Day. His family, cousins and friends were always in attendance.  His list of adventures more than doubled in the summer including wake boarding, wake surfing, skiing, boating, fishing, attending Country Thunder, playing BeersBee on the beach and even sailing while proudly taking last place!   Nobody embraced the great outdoors more than Michael, and his loss will be felt by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor his love of the outdoors with donations made to The Appalachian Trail Conservancy at their website: and specifying your contribution in memory of Michael Bonifas.
Michael will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.  He was the kind of young man who anyone would be proud to call son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin or friend. His visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Moss Funeral Home 209 S Batavia Avenue, Batavia, Illinois 60510.  Funeral service will begin at 10:15 AM  on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 with prayers at the funeral home, then traveling in procession for a  funeral Mass at 11:00 AM  held at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1820 Church Road, Aurora, Illinois 60505.  Private family interment will follow cremation at a later date.
